I've painted this little house twice now (see Aug. 22nd post). It's a very charming building surrounded by olive trees. After bringing this one home, my husband’s business partner decided to use one of my paintings of this little house for their corporate holiday card.

In the Field

”THE LAST HARVEST” by Kim VanDerHoek.

S O L D

This farm will soon be replaced by new construction. I believe strawberries were grown here. Throughout Orange County you will find many small strawberry stands selling the berries that are too ripe to ship to the supermarkets. The berries from these stands taste absolutely amazing!

On the Water

”BLUE BALBOA BOAT” by Kim VanDerHoek.

5X7 inch PRINT of an original oil painting.
$13 (Shipping $3 within the U.S., $4 for Canada or $6 for everywhere else)

I painted the original in Summer 2006 and soon after it won first place for best oil painting at the Orange Art Association. The day this was painted there were many boats in the water making lots of waves. The biggest challenge with painting boats is that they are constantly moving. Sometimes, they even sail away altogether! This quiet little rowboat bobbed around but stayed put long enough for me to capture it on canvas.

Light and Shadow

”THE SUMMIT” by Kim VanDerHoek.

5X7 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.
$55 (Shipping $11 within the U.S., $20 for Canada or $28 for everywhere else)

This is a view of our local mountains. Getting the highlights and shadows just right on the mountains is very challenging because the sun is always moving. You have to get the big shapes down quickly before everything changes. Frequently, a giant cloudbank will roll in and block out the light altogether.

Morning Cafe

”YELLOW UMBRELLAS” by Kim VanDerHoek.

8X10 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.
$65 (Shipping $11 within the U.S., $20 for Canada or $28 for everywhere else)

While painting this it was all I could do to keep myself from running over to those umbrellas, grabbing a seat and enjoying a cool glass of iced tea. The building with the green points on top is a Starbucks. This was painted from the middle of the traffic circle in Old Town Orange. I hope you enjoy it!

Crisp Air

”EVENING LAKE” by Kim VanDerHoek.

8X10 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.
$65 (Shipping $11 within the U.S., $20 for Canada or $28 for everywhere else)

Big Bear Lake has so many beautiful spots to paint! While on vacation I was able to paint in the late afternoon and capture this scene. I would have continued and painted a second painting of the sunset but the temperature dropped and my fingers were not moving very well at the end of this one. I’ll be sure to bring a pair of gloves next time!

Mountain ACEO/ATC

”AFTERNOON PEAK” by Kim VanDerHoek.

2.5 x 3.5 inch ACEO/ATC original oil painting on canvas paper mounted on acid free cardstock.
$8 (shipping within the U.S. $3)

This beautiful view can be seen along a hiking trail in the Big Bear Mountains. That grassy meadow is a perfect spot to stop for lunch on the way up to the top. I’ve hiked here in both winter and spring. The hike to the top takes about three hours and the view is worth every step!

If you see a painting you like on my blog I would love to hear from you! Feel free to leave a comment below.
