Unleaded Please - Revised

S O L D

After my workshop with Greg LaRock he gave me some feedback on this painting. He suggested editing out the path. After holding my hand up over the path I agreed with him, it wasn't necessary. In fact, it was competing with my focal point. It was an easy fix.

What do you think? Which version do you like best?

i think either painting works, although i do prefer the one with the path. i think if the colors in the path were brought up closer to the surrounding landscape it wouldn't compete so much. hmmmm...editing is so difficult sometimes.

Thanks Christine, it's nice to get feedback from a fellow painter! I think I'm going to live with it for a while without the path and see how I feel about it. When it was still in the painting I felt like there were too many elements competing with each other to be the focus. Maybe I'll change it again...we'll see...

I like the edit. I would not have thought twice about it, but looking at this I realized I did not miss the path. So my guess is you need it. You could do what Christine says and make the path closer in value to the field, but I don't think you need it.

I see his point, but I think I really liked the path. Of course, I'm not looking at it with a painter's eye though, so who am I to say. Paths are inviting, so, to me, it gave the painting a warmer feeling.
