Apples 6 Ways - A Study

6 X 8 inch oil painting on canvas panel. $65.00
(That includes shipping within the U.S.)

These apples were painted for the Daily Paintworks Challenge. Each one was timed for 10 minutes and at the end of that time I had to put my brush down. It was a great exercise in getting down the essential elements of the apple without a lot of fussing around.

In my studio I had the added challenge of having my two kids under foot the whole time. Twice I lost precious minutes because there was a snack emergency and once I had to start my time over because the baby needed an urgent diaper change.

Looking For Amour

8 X 6 inch oil painting on canvas panel.
NFS

I should have posted this on Monday for Valentine's Day but couldn't get to it. The family is keeping me busy.

With his bold red breast this gentleman is dressed to impress. What a romantic place he has found for a perch too. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?

Accepted Into The Salon International

Titled “Jewel Of The Coast”
11 X 14 inch oil painting on canvas panel.
Available at the Salon International Show

This has been an amazing week; first one of my paintings was selected for the Paint America Top 100 exhibit and now my painting “Jewel Of The Coast” has been juried into the Greenhouse Gallery Salon International.

The Salon has artists from all over the world enter and only a fraction of those who apply actually make it into the show. When I checked the web site and found my name on the accepted entries list I was thrilled.

Of course, when I called my husband to tell him the news I don’t think he really understood why I was practically hopping up and down (that’s nice, was his response). At least not until an artist friend of mine was jumping up and down for me in celebration - then the light bulb in his head lit up. Now he is having visions of retiring next year. I hate to burst his bubble just yet, so I’ll let those visions of Ferraris dance through his head for a while longer.

When I finished “Jewel Of The Coast” I was pleased with how it turned out and put it aside as a possible entry for the Salon. Recently, I painted a larger version of this same painting with a few minor tweaks. I’m bringing both home from the framer today and can’t wait to hang them up and see how they look.

More

20 X 24 inch oil painting on stretched canvas, shown with frame.
Available through Coutts Museum of Art, El Dorado, KS

This week I found out that my painting “More” was chosen as one of the top 100 paintings in the Paint American national art exhibit. The show will run June 14, 2011 to August 13 at the Coutts Museum of Art in El Dorado, Kansas. Artists from across the country enter this show and it is a huge honor to have been chosen.

Some of my blog followers might recognize this painting. I created it using my smaller version “Locally Grown” as a guide. Both this painting and the smaller one have become very popular with several judges in some of the art shows I’ve been entering them into. In fact, I will have more exciting news about “Locally Grown” in the next few months.

Saturday night was the opening reception for the group show I’m part of at Copperwood Artware Gallery in Orange, California. The gallery was packed for most of the night with artists and patrons enjoying wine and delicious hors d’ oeuvres made by one of the owners. If you missed the opening, the show will be at the gallery until March 28th.

Summer's Promise

8 X 10 inch oil painting on canvas panel.
$250 (Free shipping in the U.S.)

Can you believe this was painted on a sunny and warm day in the middle of January? The weather couldn't have been more perfect.

The day I painted this Greg LaRock had done a demonstration painting for all the members of SOCALPAPA (Southern Calif. Plein Air Painters Assoc.). After he finished he walked around giving advice and offering tips to the artists that stayed to paint. What did he say to me you might be asking? For the first time, he told me that I was doing just fine on my own. That I know what I need to know in order to create a good painting.

Wow, just like that, he pushed me out of the nest and told me to fly.

The February version of my newsletter will be going out tonight. For one week I am offering this painting to my newsletter subscribers at a special price. If you want in, use the newsletter sign-up form on the left side of my blog.

I am also working on another giveaway that will only be offered to my newsletter subscribers.
