The Ultimate Perspective

”THE ULTIMATE PERSPECTIVE” by Kim VanDerHoek.

9 X 12 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.
S O L D

This is the second painting I completed during the Ken Auster workshop. One of the lessons Ken taught me was where to soften my edges in this painting so that your eye goes to the focal point.

I was so inspired by Ken's enthusiasm for painting I couldn’t wait to get up to Big Bear and put to use all of the lessons I learned. You’ll see more of the paintings from my trip after this post.

My work has just been featured in a group show!

Laguna Crush

”LAGUNA CRUSH” by Kim VanDerHoek.

9 X 12 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.

Right before my Big Bear vacation I attended a painting workshop taught by Ken Auster. It was a mind-blowing 3 days!

This is one of the paintings I completed during the workshop. Ken adjusted the color of the farthest mountain and the bottom right hillside but all of the rest I painted. I’m pleased with this one and will have a hard time letting it go.

San Gorgonio View

”SAN GORGONIO VIEW” by Kim VanDerHoek.

8 X 10 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.

Last week my husband and I were able to take a week long vacation in the Big Bear Mountains. There was lots of hiking and painting involved, including a few days of lounging around (an absolute luxury for a parent). It was heavenly! I often wonder what I did with all my free time before I became a mother.

A year ago we tried hiking to a spot where we could see Mt. San Gorgonio. It took all day and when we reached the top it was too windy to paint. Not this year however. We found a 4-wheel drive road that led to a trailhead. From there it was a short hike to this spot with a perfect view of San Gorgonio.

Walking Path Shadows

”WALKING PATH SHADOWS” by Kim VanDerHoek.

12 X 9 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.

Near my house is an amazing walking path that the city of Tustin made out of a useless strip of land. Every day hundreds of people, kids and dogs use beautifully landscaped path. I’ll have to go back and paint it again.

Villa Park Poles

”VILLA PARK POLES” by Kim VanDerHoek.

12 X 9 inch PRINT of an original oil painting.

It was an overcast afternoon when I painted this one. It was a great exercise in making an interesting painting out of a scene most people wouldn’t look twice at. William Wray was my inspiration, he can really make blight beautiful.
