Side By Side

”SIDE BY SIDE” by Kim VanDerHoek.

12 X 9 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.

This was painted on Balboa Island in Newport Beach. I saw this couple strolling along the walking path and decided they would make a nice focal point for the painting.

After The Storm

”AFTER THE STORM” by Kim VanDerHoek.

8 X 6 inch Oil Painting on linen panel.

Right above my neighbor’s house was the most amazing sunset. I really wish I had more opportunities to paint at this time of day! The light is so dramatic, so moody. It’s a challenging time to paint because the light changes so quickly.

Trail To Saddleback

”TRAIL TO SADDLEBACK” by Kim VanDerHoek.

9 X 12 inch Oil Painting on canvas board.

This was painted in the middle of a heat wave. I believe the temperature was over 90 degrees and at noon I was a bit light headed. Luckily, my painting was finished.

This is a view of the foothills that lead up to Saddleback Mountain.

St. John's

”ST. JOHN’S” by Kim VanDerHoek.

9 X 12 inch PRINT of an original oil painting. The original painting was a commission and is sold.
$16 (Shipping $3 within the U.S., $4 for Canada or $6 for everywhere else)

A collector of mine asked me to paint St. John’s church for her. It’s one of several beautiful churches we have in the area. While it was challenging to paint, I really enjoyed creating this one and will return to paint this building from another angle.

View From Castle Rock

”VIEW FROM CASTLE ROCK” by Kim VanDerHoek.

6 X 8 inch Oil Painting on Raymar linen panel.

Castle Rock is an amazing rock formation in Big Bear that is just a short hike off of the highway.

I knew I only had a couple of hours to paint here so I decided to use my palette knife and simplify the scene to the essentials. This one has loads of thick paint and texture.

Holcomb Valley Ranch

”HOLCOMB VALLEY RANCH” by Kim VanDerHoek.

12 X 16 inch original oil painting.
S O L D

This was a painter’s gold mine of a location! I could have painted here for a week. There was the ranch with mountain views and to the right of the ranch were about 50 horses grazing in a meadow. Everywhere I turned there was something I wanted to paint.

Right in the middle of this one a 4-wheel drive tour group came by and stopped right next to my husband and I. It was weird hearing the guide over his loud speaker after being in such a quiet spot all morning. However, we did learn that parts of this ranch were used in an episode of Bonanza.

To get to this beautiful spot my husband and I drove on a 4-wheel drive road for 1 1/2 hours. When we found this spot we took our time and had lunch underneath the shade of the trees. I even saw a couple of trout in the water.

Lake at Sunset

”LAKE AT SUNSET” by Kim VanDerHoek.

6 X 8 inch Oil Painting on Raymar linen panel.

It’s pretty rare for me to paint at sunset. I was hoping I would have more opportunities on my Big Bear trip but, I caught a cold so, this is the only time I was able paint at sunset.

With only moments to capture the lake at sunset, I created this using only my palette knife. Speed was essential because in 10 minutes the sun had set and all the beautiful highlights were gone.
